Implementation of necessary changes typically requires updates to infrastructure, documentation systems, and operational procedures. Many producers work with Registered Trainers who provide guidance on interpreting requirements and preparing for audits.
The formal certification audit is conducted by an accredited third-party certification body. These bodies must meet international ISO/IEC 17065 standards and receive approval from Global GAP’s integrity program. Auditors perform comprehensive on-site inspections, reviewing documentation, observing practices, and interviewing workers to verify compliance.
Certificates are valid for one year, requiring annual audits to maintain certification status. At least 10% of audits are conducted as unannounced inspections to ensure ongoing compliance. The program operates through a network of more than 190 approved certification bodies worldwide, with technical experts and key account managers providing local support.
